Nyamuragira volcano (DRCongo): lava lake remains active

The lava lake at Nyamuragira volcano continues to be active (image: Sentinel-2)
From the latest Sentinel-2 satellite image on 16 April, the lava lake continues to churn as the lava wells up from below and activity remains confined within the volcano's summit caldera associated with the intermittent night-time glow and constant degassing at the top of the volcano. The central lava lake is currently at stable condition suggests that there is a delicate equilibrium between heat and magma supply and loss (through cooling and mild emissions during degassing).
